5hour ENERGY, a primary sponsor of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver, Clint Bowyer, wanted to extend the brand’s awareness beyond the hood of the race car by executing a sampling campaign at the races that their driver competed in. The one obstacle that they faced, however, was obtaining sampling rights and having a branded presence at certain race track’s property due to an existing contract conflict with other energy drink companies. So, 5hour retained a+l marketing to search for other sites that would allow them to effectively reach the loyal race fans during race weekends without infringing on track property. The guerilla marketing gurus at a+l went to work and negotiated placement for the ENERGY Zone rig surrounding all of their desired tracks and markets. 5hour ENERGY was able to sample and educate race fans about the brand through their Interactive Display at a fraction of the cost for what it would have been had the placement been on track property.
